Our History

From a single clinic started in 1952 by Dr. Hal Taylor, Sr., Healthy Pets has grown to six thriving clinics – solidifying its position as central Ohio’s preeminent family-operated veterinary practice.

Dr. Hal Taylor, Sr. graduated from The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1950 and opened a small animal practice on the Westside of Columbus.

Dr. Hal Taylor, Jr. (Doc), following in his father’s esteemed footsteps, joined the practice in 1970, marking the beginning of an era of substantial growth and innovation. Together, they navigated the evolving landscape of veterinary medicine, pioneering advancements such as the development of VETWARE software by Dr. Taylor Jr., which could be utilized in a veterinary hospital to maintain patient data. Healthy Pets continues to utilize the best technology for hospital information systems available today.

After Dr. Taylor Sr.’s retirement, Doc expanded the practice to six locations, maintaining individuality while uniting under the Healthy Pets banner in 1999. The most recent clinic, Healthy Pets of Hayden Run, opened in 2021.

Despite Doc’s passing in 2021, the Healthy Pets legacy continues. Today, Doc’s son, Dr. Hal Taylor, III (Chip) serves as Healthy Pets Medical Director and the lead veterinarian at Healthy Pets of Wedgewood. Like his father and grandfather before him, he is dedicated to continuing the Healthy Pets legacy of compassionate, quality pet care with a hometown touch, and remains diligent in ensuring that his clinics remain at the forefront of veterinary medicine.

Graduating from The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003, Dr. Chip Taylor will tell you that he began his career in veterinary medicine at the age of 12, watching his grandfather and father compassionately care for other people’s animals. It was this, plus Dr. Chip’s thirst for advancing veterinary technology, and overcoming the challenges holding the field back, that has led him to become one the most recognized doctors in the field of veterinary medicine.

Dr. Chip’s pursuit of veterinary medicine has enabled him to delve into various aspects of the field, particularly in surgical procedures utilizing cutting-edge technology to provide optimal medical care for animals.

He is among the few surgeons in central Ohio certified to perform both TPLO and TTA knee repair surgeries, along with fracture repair. And while Dr. Chip finds all aspects of veterinary medicine fulfilling, he finds treating his furry cancer patients the most rewarding.
