Dr. Hal H. Taylor., Jr., DVM is a 1970 graduate from the Ohio State University, School of Veterinary Medicine. He decided to follow in his father, Dr. Hal, Sr., footsteps. Dr. Taylor, Sr. had graduated from the Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1950. He joined his father’s practice of small animal medicine and surgery located on the Westside of Columbus. When he joined the practice, the office moved to a newly renovated facility to accommodate the growth. He and his father practiced in that office together for 8 years. Upon Dr. Taylor, Sr.’s retirement from veterinary medicine, Dr. Taylor, Jr assumed full responsibility of the practice.
As the practice grew, he added the first associate in 1982. During the 1980’s, there were alot of changes and growth in veterinary medicine. With the technology changing so rapidly, he began designing a computer software that could be utilized in a veterinary hospital that would maintain patient data. This would help to alleviated many paper records. The software company is called VETWARE, Inc. and is currently how all clinics records are maintained. Not only is the patient’s complete history maintained, but reminder records and all accounting functions for each facility are maintained by one computer system.
With continuing growth and changes in veterinary medicine, a second practice was developed in Hilliard in 1992 with Rome-Hilliard Animal Hospital. With the large number of the clients from the Hilliard area coming to Westgate, it was designed to alleviate overflow. This facility also has capability to board and groom, two growing areas of veterinary medicine. This practice grew and developed its own personality and a clientele of their own. As growth continued in both clinics, a third practice was added in Grove City in 1994, called Bren-Lor Animal Hospital. This facility is also a full service clinic with full medical and boarding facilities. Each location is an AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) accredited facility.
In 1997, Westgate moved into a new state of the art facility with a full service lab, grooming, boarding and isolation areas because of continued growth. This moved increased office size to almost three times the size of the old building. The old location has now been renovated and is a veterinary specialty referral practice.
Currently, there are nine full time veterinarians, one part time veterinarian, nine full time veterinary technicians, four full time managers and numerous support staff to assist clientele in all locations.
In mid 1999, the names were changed for all locations to show continuity between locations, the businesses became Healthy Pets of Westgate, Rome-Hilliard and Bren-Lor, thus maintaining their own identities. In late 1999, ground was broken for the next facility, Healthy Pets of Wedgewood, to be located in Powell, Ohio. This location will be the largest thus far, being approximately 14,000 square feet.
Achievements include, past President of the CAVM, past District Representative of OVMA, Central Ohio District Rep for AAHA, member of the Ohio Animal Health Foundation, OVMA award for Outstanding Contribution to the Ohio Animal Health Foundation. He is an active member of Kiwanas, AVMA, OVMA, CAVM, AAHA, Mason, Scottish Rite and the Shriners Associations.
At this time, the goal of all the practices is to continue to provide state of the art hospitals, current techniques and services, competent doctors and staff to all current and future clients for each location.
Dr. Chip Taylor
Dr.
Hal Taylor III began his career in veterinary medicine watching his grandfather
and father taking care of other people's animals. Seeing many changes since
those early days as a child, he chose the field of veterinary medicine. This
choice was in large part due to all the changes, advances and challenges it
holds.
Dr. Taylor grew up in Hilliard, Ohio but his family moved while he was still in high school to Dublin, where he graduated from Dublin High School. He attended The Ohio University to obtain his Bachelors of Science. Upon graduation from The College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University, he became the third generation of Taylor's to enter this field.
Currently, he resides in Arlington, Ohio with his wife, dog and three cats. He enjoys many different activities and interests, but OSU sports are at the top of his recreational activities. Over the years, he has spent many hours as a community volunteer, including working with the youth as a mentor for the Franklin County Children's Services.
His choice of veterinary medicine has allowed him to explore many different areas, including medicine and surgery using the latest advances in technology to deliver the best medicine possible. If asked to pick a favorite area, he is unable to do so, however the most rewarding cases to date for him have been in the treatment of cancer patients.
Dr. Dawn Keith

Dr. Keith worked in Mansfield, Ohio in a small animal/exotic pet practice before coming to Healthy Pets in October of 2002. She practices at the Hilliard and Powell offices, but occasionally fills in at the Grove City and West Broad offices. Her interests include small animal medicine and soft tissue surgery. Dr. Keith also enjoys seeing the exotic pets that frequent our hospitals.
Dr. Keith lives with her husband, Ryan, whom she met during veterinary school. They married after they completed their veterinary degrees and just recently welcomed their first child into their lives, a boy named Benjamin in May, 2004. She also shares her home with 3 dogs (2 bernese mountain dogs and a yellow lab), 3 cats and a bird. There will most certainly be more four legged animals added to the family once Benjamin is old enough to ask! (he tends to have a lot of pull, and as soon as he asks "can we keep him?"....the answer will be yes!).
In her spare time, Dr. Keith enjoys exercising, crafts, reading and hiking. She loves taking Benjamin and her dogs on long walks.
