Almost 60 Years of History
Healthy Pets of Ohio has a long history in Central Ohio. From a single clinic started in 1952 by Dr. Hal Taylor, Sr. Healthy Pets has grown to 5 clinics and is the largest family run veterinary clinic in the region. That history has shaped Healthy Pets into a practice at the forefront of veterinary medicine.
Dr. Hal Taylor, Sr. graduated from the Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine in1950 and started a small animal practice on the Westside of Columbus. Dr. Hal H. Taylor., Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps and graduated from Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1970. He joined his father's practice and the office moved to a newly renovated facility to accommodate the growth. He and his father practiced in that office together for 8 years. Upon Dr. Taylor, Sr.'s retirement from veterinary medicine, Dr. Taylor, Jr assumed full responsibility of the practice.
As the practice grew, he added the first associate in 1982. During the 1980's, there
were a lot of changes and growth in veterinary medicine. With technology changing
so rapidly, he began designing computer software, VETWARE, which could be utilized
in a veterinary hospital to maintain patient data. Today, Healthy Pets continues
to utilize the best technology for hospital information systems.
With continuing growth and many clients coming from Hilliard, a second practice
was opened in Hilliard in 1992. This facility added capability to board and groomAs
growth continued in both clinics, a third practice was added in Grove City in 1994.
This facility is also a full service clinic with full medical and boarding facilities.
In 1997, Westgate moved into a new state of the art facility with a full service
lab, grooming, boarding and isolation areas because of continued growth. This move
increased office size to almost three times the size of the old building. The old
location has now been renovated and is a veterinary specialty referral practice.
In mid 1999, the names were changed for all locations to Healthy Pets of Westgate,
Rome-Hilliard and Bren-Lor, thus maintaining their own identities but providing
continuity across the company. In late 1999, ground was broken for the next facility,
Healthy Pets of Wedgewood in Powell, Ohio. This location was the largest thus far.
Dr. Hal Taylor, III has continued the family tradition, graduating from The Ohio
State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003 and serving as the lead
veterinarian at Healthy Pets of Wedgewood.
The newest facility is Healthy Pets of Lewis Center. Opened in 2008, this state-of-the
art facility continues the Healthy Pets tradition of staying at the forefront of
veterinary medicine.
Dr. Taylor, Jr. has had many achievements throughout his career, including past President of the CAVM, past District Representative of OVMA, Central Ohio District Rep for AAHA, member of the Ohio Animal Health Foundation, and OVMA award for Outstanding Contribution to the Ohio Animal Health Foundation. He is an active member of Kiwanas, AVMA, OVMA, CAVM, AAHA, Mason, Scottish Rite and the Shriners Associations.
